Guide to the PAX television series Young Blades, which was based on Alexandre Dumas's novel The Three Musketeers and stars Tobias Mehler and Karen Cliche.

Young Blades was a television series which ran for a single thirteen-episode season on PAX in 2005. Its premise was that Jacqueline Roget, a woman and skilled swordfighter, disguised herself as a man and joined the Musketeers while on the run from the law for killing her father's murderer. Her companions include d'Artagnan, the son of the famous Musketeer in the novel The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. D'Artagnan is the only one who knows Jacqueline's identity. Together with the other Musketeers, they fight the corrupt Cardinal Mazarin in order to protect France. The show combines elements of fantasy and comedy along with historical fiction.

Characters in Young Blades

  • Jacqueline Roget (Karen Cliche) - Known to most as the Musketeer Jacque LePonte, Jacqueline is a passionate and skilled fighter who is willing to give up her own happiness in order to fight for justice and France.
  • d'Artagnan (Tobias Mehler) - The son of "the the" d'Artagnan, d'Artagnan is a notorious womanizer and show-off who longs to emerge from his father's shadow. However, he is as skilled and passionate about justice as Jacqueline.
  • Siroc (Mark Hildreth) - More scientist than fighter, Siroc creates inventions which are well ahead of his time, including an airplane and a submarine. According to the show's official website, Siroc is a former slave, although this is never directly addressed in the show itself.
  • Ramon (Zak Santiago) - A poet and food afficionado, Ramon is more often than not the show's comic relief, although he gets his chance at romance and can fight as hard as the rest of them. The uncut episodes of Young Blades all end with Ramon's poetic interpretation of the story's events.
  • Captain Duval (Bruce Boxleitner) - Although left with a permanent limp by one of Mazarin's men, Duval is a strong leader and fighter, supporting his Musketeers even in some of their more unusual exploits.
  • Cardinal Mazarin (Michael Ironside) - The villain of Young Blades, Mazarin is content to be the power behind the throne rather than taking control directly. One of his goals is to eliminate the Musketeers.
  • King Louis XIV (Robert Michael Sheehan) - Merely a teenager, King Louis XIV is immature and unfocused, which makes him easy for Cardinal Mazarin to manipulate. The Musketeers' main goal is to protect the king.
  • Queen Anne (Sheena Easton) - Although the Queen often seems detached and uninterested in royal politics, she is very protective of her son and has an interesting give-and-take relationship with Cardinal Mazarin.
