Desmond Hume May Be Widmore's Father

Lost’s Sixth And Final Season Will Answer All Questions

Jul 12, 2009 Mike Sheeler

Between the four-toed statue, the smoke monster and the ever mysterious Jacob, ABC's Lost has a lot of loose ends to tie up in the sixth season.

That is really just the tip of the iceberg. The previous five seasons of Lost have built up a large body of mysteries. The fifth season ended with what has become known as “The Incident”. Jack Sheppard and some of his friends from the crash of flight 815 took the core of a thermal nuclear bomb, known in the fifties as an atom bomb, and attempted to stop 815 from crashing in the first place by changing the timeline.

The sixth season opens on Jan 20, of 2010. Few teasers or spoilers have been released or leaked as of yet but one thing that is known is the sixth season is slated to start with a close up shot of an open eye. This is reminiscent of season one openings. What character the eye belongs to is not yet known.

Mike Sheeler’s Predictions Of Future Events

Many fan sites and forums are lit up daily with predictions of upcoming events. Few have developed any serious guesses as to the outcome of the series. Here are a few educated guesses that have never previously been tabled; (Warning: Thorough Lost knowledge may be needed to follow these predictions)

Charles Widmore May Be Desmond Hume’s Son

First off, any place that sports a time machine can create strange families displaced through time. An example of this would be Dr. Chang and his son Miles working alongside each other in the past. At that time Miles is present as both a newborn and an adult. That proves that this sort of thing is at least possible.

The name is a big substantiating clue. Desmond Hume and Penelope Widmore name their son Charlie after the late Charlie of Driveshaft that dies during season three. If Charlie Hume became a professional off the island and took his mother’s maiden name you would end up with Charles Widmore.

Charles Widmore’s undue hatred of Desmond Hume may be another clue. When Desmond attempts to ask for Penelope’s hand in marriage (better known as Penny) from her father Charles Widmore, he outright refuses and then insults Desmond. Bear in mind that the antiques dealer, who turns out to be Eloise Hawking, Widmore’s love interest and Daniel Faraday’s mother, refuses to sell Desmond a ring that he would have used to marry Penny.

Is Eloise Penny’s mother? Widmore is her father, or at least that role has been assumed. Is Widmore so protective of Penny because she is his daughter or because she will become his mother? Further evidence shows that Hawking and Widmore are willing to go to great lengths to ensure their goals. Hawking shoots her adult son in the back close to the end of season five before he is even born.

She learns who he is, leaves the island and births Faraday with Widmore. They are Faraday’s parents. Also, Widmore is seen getting removed from the island by Ben Linus. One of the reasons is that he had a child with an outsider from off the island. Does that unlawful union lead to Daniel or Penny? Hawking raises Faraday and never tells him how he will die. Is that cold or necessary for the safety of the world and the island?

Both Eloise and Widmore could know if they didn’t take those actions Widmore and Daniel might never even exist. Timelines can get very muddy when time travel is introduced.

Another substantial clue comes in an almost subliminal form. Hair. During season five Widmore is seen on the island at roughly the age of 30 to 35. Widmore’s hair looks almost identical to Desmond’s hair and the hair of Desmond’s son Charlie. This is seen briefly in a season five episode in which Ben Linus goes to kill Penny to settle a score for the loss of his own daughter at the hands of Widmore’s hired mercenaries.

The creepy thing about all this is that, if it is true, Widmore may be his own grandfather.

Mallory Giunchigliani :
Interesting thoughts. Although it was revealed in season 5 that Widmore is Faraday's father, so Penny is his half-sister. According to lostpedia, we don't know who Penny's mother is. It mentions that it is Eloise, but since it's not canon, we can't be sure.
I sure hope we get the answers to these questions (I also hope, for the sake of Charlie [the baby] that he isn't his own grandfather!)
